Printing Using Path Variables

BarScan has tilde (~) variables that can be used during report exports.  These variables allow reports to send report files to the current Windows Desktop or My Documents folder and to other BarScan folders.  These should be used with caution as it is possible to overwrite BarScan or user data if you reply YES to overwrite.  These variables are:

CUR_COMPATH Contains the full path of the current company with a trailing backslash. For example,

for company  C:BARSCANWDEMOCODEMOCO.DBC

it is C:BARSCANWDEMOCO <INCLUDING THE TRAILING SLASH>

CUR_SYSUSER Contains the full path of the SYSUSER folder with a trailing backslash. For example,

for installation  C:BARSCANW

it is C:BARSCANWSYSUSER <INCLUDING THE TRAILING SLASH>

CUR_MYDOCUMENTS Contains the full path of the Document folder. Note the tilde (~) symbol.  For example,

~CUR_MYDOCUMENTS~REPORT NAME

CUR_MYDESKTOP Contains the full path of the Desktop folder. For example,

~CUR_MYDESKTOP~REPORT NAME

Additionally, the variable ~RPTNAMEASFILENAME~ allows you to substitute that actual Report Name in the Report Generator for the filename.

These make it easier to design a single ‘file export’ report across multiple companies.  This is typically needed when interfacing with third party software systems.  Here is a sample screen of a typical use of CUR_COMPATH within the DEMOCO company.  The CUR_SYSUSER variable is used similarly.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

This report will be sent to the file:

C:BARSCANWDEMOCOBARSCAN.XLSX

You must follow these rules to use them properly and safely.

You can also append date and time to report name like “~CUR_MYDESKTOP~~CUR_DATETIME~-EXPORT FOR HPAM.XLSX”. output like as below.

Report name: “C:<User>Desktop2021-09-20-EXPORT FOR HPAM.XLSX”

It is possible to do this. You must embed a tilde expression.  Here is a sample report name.  The expression is between the two tilde (~) characters.

BARSCAN-~TRANSFORM(DTOS(DATE()),”@R 9999-99-99″)~.RPT

This produces the report name: BARSCAN-2021-03-20.RPT

Here are some variations including time.  Please note that it is illegal to have a colon(“:”) in a filename:

1: BarScan Standard: BARSCAN-~CHRTRAN(TTOC(DATETIME(),3),”:”,”_”)~.RPT

It produces:  BARSCAN-2021-03-21T10_23_25.RPT

Notes:
The letter “T” separates the date and time fields.
The underline “_” separates each time portion.

2: Replace “T” with “_”: BARSCAN-~CHRTRAN(TTOC(DATETIME(),3),”:T”,”__”)~.RPT

This produces:  BARSCAN-2021-03-21_10_23_25.RPT

Notes:
The “__” is actually two underlines in a row.
This removes the “T” in the previous example

3: Hours and Minutes only: BARSCAN-~LEFT(CHRTRAN(TTOC(DATETIME(),3),”:T”,”__”),16)~.RPT

This produces:  BARSCAN-2021-03-21_10_23.RPT
